It was divine intervention that Karen from The Original Worm asked me to try out The Worm when she did. Because as soon as it arrived at my doorstep, I was starting to get a worrisome pain every time I tried to do my leg workout at the gym. I mentioned it to my friend and she asked: Are you stretching and rolling? Something I ask everyone who comes to me with a running injury/pain question. And admittedly something I’m not always good about keeping up with.
I couldn’t remember the last time I used my foam roller, so I immediately tried out The Worm. It’s a multi-tasking body roller you can use just about anywhere. For those who love using a lacrosse ball–you’ll love The Worm because it covers four times the area all while giving you the same firm pressure. It provides trigger point release to combat stiffness, pain and stress in muscles and joints. It is also a very effective recovery aid.
Being a long distance runner means I’m literally on my feet which are taking a beating for hours at a time. I’m lucky that my kids love to help mommy feel better by giving me awesome foot massages but they don’t have the strength to really get the knots and provide deep pressure. I was very happy with the fact that I can now roll my feet at night while I’m writing and checking emails–the perfect multi-tasking tool for a busy mama!I wanted to see how The Worm would compare to my foam roller as a trigger point release for my calves which often get tight from high mileage running.I liked that it was firm enough to work my muscles but not overly painful while using it. A plus was that the large worm is big enough to allow me to roll both my calves at once if I’m short on time.
My husband has been using the smaller worm to roll out his lower back and also just as support while he’s lying on his back. He usually has a hard time sleeping at night because of back pain and tucking The Worm under his lower back has helped him get better sleep.
I love that it has multiple uses–you can use it for your back, glutes, hip flexors, neck, feet, shins, calves and arms. I have a feeling as I get ready to jump back into ultra-marathon training, I’m going to be getting tons of use out of it.
Are you a runner? Do you stretch/roll regularly? Let us know in the comments below–and if you haven’t tried out The Original Worm, you’re in luck! We’re giving one away–all you have to do is leave a comment below: Which Worm would you like to try–choose between pink and black and two different sizes! Good luck!
