Uniquely Lorna Jane: Review & Giveaway

Racing season seems to be in full swing and I can’t help but notice; I don’t approach choosing my racing gear like the rest of the girls.  I have to laugh at myself when I see the difference.  A fellow running ambassador posted in our Facebook group a picture of three different options of possible combinations of running shorts and tops–asking which one would look best for her upcoming race.  And I see my fellow blogging runner friends’ racing pictures and their headbands coordinate with their tops, shorts and even socks.  Adorably fashionable!

Me?  I’m lucky if I have one set of clean running clothes to choose from at any given time. The night before the Austin Marathon I chose my outfit by doing the sniff test.  Meh. Smelled clean enough, my shorts and top were tried and true for a good fit, and I always wear my Brooks running shoes because I know without a doubt it’s the right fit for me.  I’m lucky if I can find a matching pair of running socks, let alone socks that coordinate with my outfit and the closest upcoming holiday!

So I suppose it’s no secret I’m not into fashion.  But when I find a brand I like, I’m fiercely loyal.  I had the opportunity to review fitness apparel from Lorna Jane’s new line; Uniquely Lorna Jane and I jumped on the opportunity because I’ve been searching for a pair of running pants that fit well and stay put.  I have a small waist and bigger hips/bottom, so often I have trouble finding pants that are a good fit that I don’t have to worry about tugging at while running.

Lorna Jane graciously sent me their Amy 3/4 Tight as well as the Reflect Active Jacket to review.  I immediately took out my tights for a test run and instantly fell in love.  Not only were they comfortable, they stayed put and had a flattering look. My upcoming ultra-marathon starts at midnight, so I was excited to finally find a pair of pants that will keep me warm but not be a distraction, because these fit perfectly! A few days later I wore them for my strength training workout at the gym and I felt confident in them doing my usual squats, leg presses and more.

I loved the jacket because I was able to throw it on over my workout top and it gave me a more polished look than my usual frumpy gym/running look. It’s lightweight and perfect for cool mornings and late winter or early spring weather.  Both the jacket and tights are perfect for running.  I know the tights will also work well for my body pump class as well as yoga and pilates! Super functional.  Super flattering.  Chris is happy that I no longer reach for his over-sized sweatshirt after my workout and instead throw on my cute Reflect Active Jacket that is perfect for going to the gym or for every day wear.

And I just adore their mission statement:

Our mission is to inspire women to live their best life through Active Living.

Ok, so I’m not entering the contest because I just won the jacket you posted but I wanted to say I just got a pair of the pants the other day in the mail and I agree-they are fantastic! I wear them around the house on the weekends they are so comfortable. And yeah, I also do my at home workout in them.

    • Nicole Scott March 20, 2014 at 7:09 am #

Hey hey hey, I didn’t stipulate rules that you couldn’t win twice in one week so this totally counts as an entry!

  2. tima March 20, 2014 at 7:33 am #

Ok first of all, how cute are you? I’m always amazed when you say you’re not into fashion cos you seem to inspire others (black and brown).

I like my classes at the gym, so I would wear them there. I’m also, apparently, starting Bollywood dance classes in April, so need something that will stay on me and let me get uncordinated in my attempts to shake it!

    • Nicole Scott March 20, 2014 at 7:39 am #

Oh, my gosh, Tima! You will LOVE their clothes! I bet there would be something perfect on their site for your Bollywood class–how brave and FUN are you!?

  3. Kristie Northern March 20, 2014 at 7:51 am #

I’m so glad to be introduced to this brand; I’ve never heard of it before. I practically live in fitness clothing, for running, trail running, P90X, gym classes, yoga, and even running errands. I’m sure this brand would fit right in with the rest of my workout wardrobe!

    • Nicole Scott March 20, 2014 at 7:54 am #

I think you will love them! They are big in Australia and are really just now making their big US debut.

  4. Amber Withycombe March 20, 2014 at 7:55 am #

I put work out clothes on first thing in the morning whether I make it to the gym or not. I always want to be ready at a moments notice if I can squeeze in a workout. I’ll have to check this brand out! I love the jacket! My hubs says I own more jackets (and flip flops!) than anyone needs. :)

    • Nicole Scott March 20, 2014 at 8:00 am #

Amber, it’s funny–if my kids see me finally changing out of workout clothes they assume it means I’m going somewhere…ha! I think you’ll really like this company!

  5. Casey Cass March 20, 2014 at 7:56 am #

I’m right there with you! Fashion is not my thing and my running and workout clothes are often chosen by the sniff test. I have yet to find a pair of pants I’m comfortable running in. It’s still cold up here in Wisconsin. Can’t wait to get outside!

    • Nicole Scott March 20, 2014 at 8:01 am #

Casey, I obviously think there is nothing wrong with the sniff test ;). They have lots of options to choose from for cold or warm weather so if you win–happy shopping!

  6. Ida March 20, 2014 at 7:59 am #

You know I’ll be running because that’s the only way I get moving! :-). I think you look great and do the line justice, you could be their model!

    • Nicole Scott March 20, 2014 at 8:12 am #

So sweet, Ida! You’ll love them for running…or even just around the house :)

  7. amanda March 20, 2014 at 8:01 am #

Love the photo shoot! Good job Claire Bear! And you? Not into fashion? Meh…♥
I too have a little more junk in my trunk :). A nice pair of leggings would be great while do my “ralking.”

    • Nicole Scott March 20, 2014 at 8:14 am #

Ha, I laugh in the face of fashion ;) You’ll love them for run-walking!! C told me–mommy–you’re so fashion ;)

  8. Kara Hanegraaf March 20, 2014 at 8:07 am #

    First off: hot mama!

… I would wear them while trying to reach my newest running goal and a body pump class I’m joining!

    • Nicole Scott March 20, 2014 at 8:15 am #

Thanks, lady! I found out the hard way running shorts are not the best for body pump class–unless you want to ahem, show too much ;) You’ll love the tights for body pump!

  9. Nicole March 20, 2014 at 8:07 am #

I’d love to try the Lorna Jane gear to spruce up my Spring workout wardrobe!

  10. Angelena Riggs March 20, 2014 at 8:12 am #

I love that jacket! If I don’t win I’m going to have to buy that!! I think your 7 year old has a future in photography!

    • Nicole Scott March 20, 2014 at 8:16 am #

Angelena–I know! She did such a good job :) I think I could have gone down a size in the jacket–my measurements were in between sizing so I think if you get the right size it’ll look even better on YOU!

      • Angelena Riggs March 21, 2014 at 8:56 am #

She did! Now if I could get my 2 year old to do some pics for me :-) I kinda like the larger jackets so they don’t feel too tight! You’re too sweet! It looks great on you!

  11. Karina March 20, 2014 at 8:18 am #

I just popped in to say I’m running-fashion lazy like you describe. A few years ago I actually went the route of only buying black bottoms and bras so I at least kind of match. I’ve now branched out–I sometimes buy grays. Matching is for someone else. I’m just glad to get in the miles in something that doesn’t chafe, pinch, or ride up!

    • Nicole Scott March 20, 2014 at 8:25 am #

Karina, running fashion lazy is the perfect way to describe me. I like black bottoms for the reason of–sweating! No need to have embarrassing race photos that make it look like you peed yourself (just me? :))

  12. Shellie March 20, 2014 at 8:40 am #

I decided back in January that I’m done with being this size. Not a bad size, really. Just not a size where I feel good. So off to the gym I’ve been going. But somehow in one of our frequent moves, I lost all my workout clothes. So I’ve been grabbing things here and there as I hit my little fitness goals. I would love to win this so I can grab a few more things. Thanks!

    • Nicole Scott March 20, 2014 at 9:12 am #

Shellie, I know exactly what you mean. It’s so important for us to be comfortable–no matter what our size goal is! You’ll hit yours soon! xo

  13. Jennifer March 20, 2014 at 8:48 am #

I feel ya’ on the pee-look! I’ve been buying exclusively black bottoms lately, I’m too sweaty for my own good. I only wear my grey ones if I’m not actually planning on doing much more than stretching. Hubby and I are on week 4 of T25, and it have been a sweat factory!

    • Nicole Scott March 20, 2014 at 12:30 pm #

That is exactly my motto with grey–only good for stretching!

  14. Jennifer S. March 20, 2014 at 10:09 am #

I’d love to try out Lorna Jane gear!! I am definitely fashion lazy when it comes to exercising…and heck if I’m going to run as slowly as I do I might as well look somewhat coordinated! LOL I’ve always been scared of tights having a bigger bottom area, while the rest of me is thin, so I think these would be perfect to try out! Thanks for sharing!!

  15. Megan March 20, 2014 at 10:39 am #

Great minds must think alike:) Our outfits are very similar! Haha! See you tonight at the Twitter party!

    xox Megan

    • Nicole Scott March 20, 2014 at 12:23 pm #

I tried to respond on your blog, Megan but not sure if it went through–you looked great! Natural model :)

  16. Sue @This Mama Runs For Cupcakes March 20, 2014 at 10:51 am #

So cute!! And I’m sorry, you definitely look a like a natural modeling that stuff!! I have been dying to try Lorna Jane too, I would probably wear it for running and for strength training!

    • Nicole Scott March 20, 2014 at 12:32 pm #

Thanks, Sue! I first saw the company on Instagram–cute cute clothes! xo

  17. Alyson March 20, 2014 at 12:13 pm #

I would wear them on my outdoor runs, doing strength training, and my group fitness classes!

Good luck, Alyson–I know they will be perfect for all of those!

  18. Tracy March 20, 2014 at 12:16 pm #

Love the clothes and the pics, quite a photog on your hands

    • Nicole Scott March 20, 2014 at 12:33 pm #

Thanks, Tracy! She did a great job! My husband asked me if I wanted him to take them and I had to say, nope! The 7 year old had me covered :)

  19. Kristi Wolfe March 20, 2014 at 12:42 pm #

I’d love it to do Zumba, running, T25, and anything my kids come up with :) They look amazing!

    • Nicole Scott March 20, 2014 at 1:35 pm #

Thanks, Kristi! I think you’ll love LJ for any and all of those activities :)

  20. Sarah March 20, 2014 at 2:47 pm #

If I win, I would get some new running pants for when I finally get to run outside! Although today we had more snow here in Chicago, so I’m not sure when spring will actually arrive. ;)

  21. Nicole @ Fitful Focus March 20, 2014 at 5:40 pm #

I would go for a run through Brooklyn!

  22. @CamWow111 March 20, 2014 at 7:21 pm #

  23. Meg March 20, 2014 at 7:22 pm #

I would run in my new LJ!

  24. Lynette March 20, 2014 at 7:22 pm #

I’ve discovered a new fitness called ViPR. It doesn’t even feel like a workout until the next day I’m so stiff and sore. I love it! So I’d wear my new wardrobe there for sure!

  25. alisa March 20, 2014 at 7:22 pm #

i would love to do some yoga and dance in Lorna Jane!

  26. Tami March 20, 2014 at 7:33 pm #

  28. Tori March 20, 2014 at 8:08 pm #

Not sure if this is an international giveaway or not, but just in case I’ll enter …
I’m training for a 14km walk in 3 weeks, and then, if I can sort out my shin splint issue, I may even consider starting to run … !!!

  29. Amber L March 20, 2014 at 8:20 pm #

I am in love with this line of active wear! I’m a personal trainer who really needs an update on her workout clothes! :-)

  30. Lindsey Ruth March 20, 2014 at 8:25 pm #

I am always on the lookout for new workout brands (I literally google workout clothes looking for new fun brands!) and I have never heard of this one! I’m so glad you introduced me! I love their stuff and would love some new running clothes :)

    • Lindsey Ruth March 20, 2014 at 8:25 pm #

      Also… you are SO adorable!!

      • Nicole Scott March 21, 2014 at 9:29 am #

Thanks, Lindsey! I think that counts as two entries for boosting my ego ;)

  31. Camm March 20, 2014 at 8:25 pm #

I would use them to start my post birth pt from pss and eventually use them to get back to running my two miles with out stopping and hopefully set a new distance record after that!

  32. Georgette mcqueen March 20, 2014 at 8:38 pm #

I definately need new gear!!! Baby #6 really did a number on my booty, and I’m trying to get my body back in shape!

  33. Rebecca scott March 20, 2014 at 9:26 pm #

I will dust off winter by getting out there and jogging.

  34. Zoe Murray March 20, 2014 at 9:29 pm #

I would wear them for all the races I’ve signed up for! Finally back running and loving it!

  35. Lauren March 20, 2014 at 10:03 pm #

I would wear them to start RUNNING! That’s right….ME! I have a 5K coming up and serious clothes help me to take working out more seriously. Make shift clothes = Make shift workouts.

  36. krystalspringer@hotmail.com March 21, 2014 at 9:25 am #

I would love to try this while doing my Jillian Micheals workout videos or I am going to be starting the couch to 5k running program again since I am finally healed enough to attempt running again:) It would be awesome to have some new workout stuff for this new phase of my life! And btw Nicole, you look AMAZING in the pics your daughter took of you! A natural…. for both of you!

  37. Wendy R. March 21, 2014 at 10:06 am #

I would use it for everything but work. Wardrobe-wise I have two extremes – work and working out – with very little in between. With work out clothes, I am all about function over style. I used to try to match somewhat, but now I do the opposite. The more clashing colors I have going on at once, the more I like it. I don’t want to look pretty when I train. I want to look like a badass :-)

  38. Bri March 21, 2014 at 3:29 pm #

Now that it’s finally warming up, I’d love these to take my jogging stroller and new baby out in!

  39. Carla S March 22, 2014 at 5:02 am #

If I won,I would wear the clothes running and weightlifting.I would probably wear them hiking, too.

  40. Sadie B. March 22, 2014 at 9:34 am #

I would wear the Lorna Jane gear while running. I would also wear it to Zumba, so I at least look stylish if I can’t keep up with the instructor.

  41. Stephanie March 22, 2014 at 6:21 pm #

I just wanted to tell you how cute you look! :)

  42. Savanah Lappin March 23, 2014 at 9:01 am #

Id use it to lose my baby weight from my 3rd boy!! :)

  43. Danielle March 23, 2014 at 10:53 am #

As the weather gets warmer I would really love to exercise outside/at the park more and I’d love to get a few new workout items to facilitate that. I don’t own any clothing but this brand but they have some nice things and I would absolutely love to win. I’d like to get back to jogging more as well as strength training.

  44. Nichole N March 23, 2014 at 8:58 pm #

I love running and doing Pilates! :)

  45. Amy B. March 23, 2014 at 10:40 pm #

Love your outfit! If I win I will wear my Lorna Jane outfit on the stepmill, circuit training and teaching Pilates. Thanks for the giveaway :)

  46. Kristel March 23, 2014 at 11:23 pm #

Oh! I *just* started C25K training (after running my first 5K at my daughter’s school – I know, I got it backwards!) and after workout #2 I completely understand how important the right clothes are. I was so miserable pulling down my shirt and tugging my pants gave up I couldn’t really focus on my workout. I’d love to get some better running clothes that stay put!

  47. Elizabeth lua March 24, 2014 at 1:47 am #

I am a new mom trying to get back into shape. Maybe a new workout outfit will give me that push to workout harder

  48. heather March 24, 2014 at 6:26 am #

Love the look!! So my style!

  49. sarah ramsey March 24, 2014 at 9:15 am #

I am training for a 5k so these would be great for that! I also have a smaller waist and bigger butt which makes it hard for me to find pants that stay up:)

  50. Lauren @ Focused To Be Fit March 24, 2014 at 9:21 am #

I will rock the Lorna Jane at my Renegade Fitness Bootcamp classes! Love your outfit!

  51. Laura @FitMamaLove March 24, 2014 at 9:27 am #

Ooh, great giveaway! I’d rock my cute Lorna Jane clothes while teaching Pilates, running outside, lifting weights, etc, etc, etc!

  52. Faith H March 24, 2014 at 10:24 am #

I would rock some new workout clothes outside now that it’s getting warmer. I always workout inside because my workout clothes don’t match and are getting a bit raggedy LOL.

  53. Jen March 24, 2014 at 7:34 pm #

I will do all of my moving in my new Lorna Jane – running, yoga, strength, hanging out, recovering, shopping. You name it. I’ll wear it there. :)

  54. Amber March 24, 2014 at 8:55 pm #

I am actually in the process of changing my lifestyle habits and this would be a great step in the right direction! I have started eating healthy and doing yoga everyday. Once it stops snowing here in Michigan I plan on doing a lot of running everyday and these clothes would be perfect for that along with doing my yoga!

  55. zhe March 26, 2014 at 8:53 am #

Wow! You are gorgeous! I’m ready for spring and I’m ready to have more physical activity in gym!
