Uniquely Lorna Jane: Review & Giveaway

Racing season seems to be in full swing and I can’t help but notice; I don’t approach choosing my racing gear like the rest of the girls.  I have to laugh at myself when I see the difference.  A fellow running ambassador posted in our Facebook group a picture of three different options of possible combinations of running shorts and tops–asking which one would look best for her upcoming race.  And I see my fellow blogging runner friends’ racing pictures and their headbands coordinate with their tops, shorts and even socks.  Adorably fashionable!

Me?  I’m lucky if I have one set of clean running clothes to choose from at any given time. The night before the Austin Marathon I chose my outfit by doing the sniff test.  Meh. Smelled clean enough, my shorts and top were tried and true for a good fit, and I always wear my Brooks running shoes because I know without a doubt it’s the right fit for me.  I’m lucky if I can find a matching pair of running socks, let alone socks that coordinate with my outfit and the closest upcoming holiday!

So I suppose it’s no secret I’m not into fashion.  But when I find a brand I like, I’m fiercely loyal.  I had the opportunity to review fitness apparel from Lorna Jane’s new line; Uniquely Lorna Jane and I jumped on the opportunity because I’ve been searching for a pair of running pants that fit well and stay put.  I have a small waist and bigger hips/bottom, so often I have trouble finding pants that are a good fit that I don’t have to worry about tugging at while running.

Lorna Jane graciously sent me their Amy 3/4 Tight as well as the Reflect Active Jacket to review.  I immediately took out my tights for a test run and instantly fell in love.  Not only were they comfortable, they stayed put and had a flattering look. My upcoming ultra-marathon starts at midnight, so I was excited to finally find a pair of pants that will keep me warm but not be a distraction, because these fit perfectly! A few days later I wore them for my strength training workout at the gym and I felt confident in them doing my usual squats, leg presses and more.

I loved the jacket because I was able to throw it on over my workout top and it gave me a more polished look than my usual frumpy gym/running look. It’s lightweight and perfect for cool mornings and late winter or early spring weather.  Both the jacket and tights are perfect for running.  I know the tights will also work well for my body pump class as well as yoga and pilates! Super functional.  Super flattering.  Chris is happy that I no longer reach for his over-sized sweatshirt after my workout and instead throw on my cute Reflect Active Jacket that is perfect for going to the gym or for every day wear.

And I just adore their mission statement:

Our mission is to inspire women to live their best life through Active Living.

Ok, so I’m not entering the contest because I just won the jacket you posted but I wanted to say I just got a pair of the pants the other day in the mail and I agree-they are fantastic! I wear them around the house on the weekends they are so comfortable. And yeah, I also do my at home workout in them.

Ok first of all, how cute are you? I’m always amazed when you say you’re not into fashion cos you seem to inspire others (black and brown).

I like my classes at the gym, so I would wear them there. I’m also, apparently, starting Bollywood dance classes in April, so need something that will stay on me and let me get uncordinated in my attempts to shake it!

I’m so glad to be introduced to this brand; I’ve never heard of it before. I practically live in fitness clothing, for running, trail running, P90X, gym classes, yoga, and even running errands. I’m sure this brand would fit right in with the rest of my workout wardrobe!

  4. Amber Withycombe says

I put work out clothes on first thing in the morning whether I make it to the gym or not. I always want to be ready at a moments notice if I can squeeze in a workout. I’ll have to check this brand out! I love the jacket! My hubs says I own more jackets (and flip flops!) than anyone needs. :)

Amber, it’s funny–if my kids see me finally changing out of workout clothes they assume it means I’m going somewhere…ha! I think you’ll really like this company!

  5. Casey Cass says

I’m right there with you! Fashion is not my thing and my running and workout clothes are often chosen by the sniff test. I have yet to find a pair of pants I’m comfortable running in. It’s still cold up here in Wisconsin. Can’t wait to get outside!

    • says

Casey, I obviously think there is nothing wrong with the sniff test ;). They have lots of options to choose from for cold or warm weather so if you win–happy shopping!

  6. Ida says

You know I’ll be running because that’s the only way I get moving! :-). I think you look great and do the line justice, you could be their model!

  7. amanda says

Love the photo shoot! Good job Claire Bear! And you? Not into fashion? Meh…♥
I too have a little more junk in my trunk :). A nice pair of leggings would be great while do my “ralking.”

  8. Kara Hanegraaf says

    First off: hot mama!

… I would wear them while trying to reach my newest running goal and a body pump class I’m joining!

    • says

Thanks, lady! I found out the hard way running shorts are not the best for body pump class–unless you want to ahem, show too much ;) You’ll love the tights for body pump!

    • says

Angelena–I know! She did such a good job :) I think I could have gone down a size in the jacket–my measurements were in between sizing so I think if you get the right size it’ll look even better on YOU!

      • says

She did! Now if I could get my 2 year old to do some pics for me :-) I kinda like the larger jackets so they don’t feel too tight! You’re too sweet! It looks great on you!

I just popped in to say I’m running-fashion lazy like you describe. A few years ago I actually went the route of only buying black bottoms and bras so I at least kind of match. I’ve now branched out–I sometimes buy grays. Matching is for someone else. I’m just glad to get in the miles in something that doesn’t chafe, pinch, or ride up!

    • says

Karina, running fashion lazy is the perfect way to describe me. I like black bottoms for the reason of–sweating! No need to have embarrassing race photos that make it look like you peed yourself (just me? :))

I decided back in January that I’m done with being this size. Not a bad size, really. Just not a size where I feel good. So off to the gym I’ve been going. But somehow in one of our frequent moves, I lost all my workout clothes. So I’ve been grabbing things here and there as I hit my little fitness goals. I would love to win this so I can grab a few more things. Thanks!

  11. Jennifer says

I feel ya’ on the pee-look! I’ve been buying exclusively black bottoms lately, I’m too sweaty for my own good. I only wear my grey ones if I’m not actually planning on doing much more than stretching. Hubby and I are on week 4 of T25, and it have been a sweat factory!

  12. Jennifer S. says

I’d love to try out Lorna Jane gear!! I am definitely fashion lazy when it comes to exercising…and heck if I’m going to run as slowly as I do I might as well look somewhat coordinated! LOL I’ve always been scared of tights having a bigger bottom area, while the rest of me is thin, so I think these would be perfect to try out! Thanks for sharing!!

  13. says

If I win, I would get some new running pants for when I finally get to run outside! Although today we had more snow here in Chicago, so I’m not sure when spring will actually arrive. ;)

  14. @CamWow111 says

I would love to try Lorna Jane! I just started back to exercise class this week and my grungy tshirts and shorts don’t look so good.. :).

  15. Lynette says

I’ve discovered a new fitness called ViPR. It doesn’t even feel like a workout until the next day I’m so stiff and sore. I love it! So I’d wear my new wardrobe there for sure!

  16. Tami says

These are too cute!! I would love something to wear to the country music marathon in Nashville in April. And yoga!! Need some new spring workout clothes!! Thanks for the giveaway!!

  17. Tori says

Not sure if this is an international giveaway or not, but just in case I’ll enter …
I’m training for a 14km walk in 3 weeks, and then, if I can sort out my shin splint issue, I may even consider starting to run … !!!

  18. Lindsey Ruth says

I am always on the lookout for new workout brands (I literally google workout clothes looking for new fun brands!) and I have never heard of this one! I’m so glad you introduced me! I love their stuff and would love some new running clothes :)

  19. Camm says

I would use them to start my post birth pt from pss and eventually use them to get back to running my two miles with out stopping and hopefully set a new distance record after that!

  20. Georgette mcqueen says

I definately need new gear!!! Baby #6 really did a number on my booty, and I’m trying to get my body back in shape!

  21. Lauren says

I would wear them to start RUNNING! That’s right….ME! I have a 5K coming up and serious clothes help me to take working out more seriously. Make shift clothes = Make shift workouts.

  22. says

I would love to try this while doing my Jillian Micheals workout videos or I am going to be starting the couch to 5k running program again since I am finally healed enough to attempt running again:) It would be awesome to have some new workout stuff for this new phase of my life! And btw Nicole, you look AMAZING in the pics your daughter took of you! A natural…. for both of you!

  23. Wendy R. says

I would use it for everything but work. Wardrobe-wise I have two extremes – work and working out – with very little in between. With work out clothes, I am all about function over style. I used to try to match somewhat, but now I do the opposite. The more clashing colors I have going on at once, the more I like it. I don’t want to look pretty when I train. I want to look like a badass :-)

  24. Sadie B. says

I would wear the Lorna Jane gear while running. I would also wear it to Zumba, so I at least look stylish if I can’t keep up with the instructor.

  25. Danielle says

As the weather gets warmer I would really love to exercise outside/at the park more and I’d love to get a few new workout items to facilitate that. I don’t own any clothing but this brand but they have some nice things and I would absolutely love to win. I’d like to get back to jogging more as well as strength training.

  26. Amy B. says

Love your outfit! If I win I will wear my Lorna Jane outfit on the stepmill, circuit training and teaching Pilates. Thanks for the giveaway :)

  27. says

Oh! I *just* started C25K training (after running my first 5K at my daughter’s school – I know, I got it backwards!) and after workout #2 I completely understand how important the right clothes are. I was so miserable pulling down my shirt and tugging my pants gave up I couldn’t really focus on my workout. I’d love to get some better running clothes that stay put!

  28. Elizabeth lua says

I am a new mom trying to get back into shape. Maybe a new workout outfit will give me that push to workout harder

  29. sarah ramsey says

I am training for a 5k so these would be great for that! I also have a smaller waist and bigger butt which makes it hard for me to find pants that stay up:)

  30. Faith H says

I would rock some new workout clothes outside now that it’s getting warmer. I always workout inside because my workout clothes don’t match and are getting a bit raggedy LOL.

  31. says

I will do all of my moving in my new Lorna Jane – running, yoga, strength, hanging out, recovering, shopping. You name it. I’ll wear it there. :)

  32. Amber says

I am actually in the process of changing my lifestyle habits and this would be a great step in the right direction! I have started eating healthy and doing yoga everyday. Once it stops snowing here in Michigan I plan on doing a lot of running everyday and these clothes would be perfect for that along with doing my yoga!
    (:
