I’m part of an online mom community (love you ladies!) and stumbled across this recipe for a healthy snack for the whole family. The base is always the same two ingredients: 2 ripe bananas and 1 cup oatmeal. You can get creative and add healthy ingredients to spice it up to your family’s liking.
We make sure to clarify to our kiddos the difference between a snack and a treat. They know this is a healthy snack, so of course it won’t taste like a gourmet chocolate chip cookie (though we have added some dark chocolate and they loved that!) but the flavor is great and the kids love it. It’s so easy to make the kids always help me with this one. Here’s how we made it today:
2 ripe bananas
1 cup old fashioned oats
3 TB chopped walnuts
1/4 dried cranberries
1TB local honey (you can sub pure maple syrup or just leave it out completely)
1. Mash bananas with a fork add honey and mix well
2. Add all dry ingredients and mix gently
3. Using a spoon, scoop about a TB size of the mixture onto a non-stick baking sheet
4. Bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees
If you make these, please let us know what ingredients your family decided to add. Enjoy!
Never Give Up,
This is as real as it gets. Who has time for a staged photo shoot? Not me! We have a boy who has to be called “Jungle Boy” because he has decided to wear only underwear (don’t all Jungle Boys dress that way?) and a little princess who refuses to let me comb her hair, “Mommy, I do it myself!”
